Product Description Features ConvaTec Kaltostat Calcium Sodium Alginate Wound Dressing is latex-free. Non-adherent to the wound surface, allowing for easy, non-traumatic removal Longer wear time than conventional dressings; therefore, cost-effective Haemostatic: helps stop minor bleeding Ideal for Stage II and IV pressure ulcers Venous ulcers, arterial ulcers, and diabetic ulcers Donor sites and superficial burns Lacerations and abrasions Traumatic wounds and post-surgical wound debridement More Information Application Carefully cleanse the wound with saline and dry the surrounding skin. Fold or cut the dressing to the shape of the wound and apply it dry directly onto the wound. For moderately exuding wounds, Versiva XC, DuoDERM, or CombiDERM dressings (among others) can be used as a secondary dressing over Kaltostat. For heavily exuding wounds, use a secondary absorbent pad for additional absorbency and secure it in place. Directions for Use Wound Site Preparation and Cleansing Before applying Kaltostat Wound Dressing, cleanse the area with an appropriate wound cleanser. Dressing Preparation and Application Trim Kaltostat Wound Dressing to the exact size of the wound, avoiding any overlap onto the surrounding skin. For heavily exuding wounds, apply Kaltostat dry onto the wound. Use an appropriate secondary dressing to secure it in place. For lightly exuding wounds, place Kaltostat on the wound and moisten it with sterile normal saline. Use an appropriate secondary dressing to secure it. When using Kaltostat ribbon in deep cavity wounds, leave at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) outside the wound for easy retrieval. Dressing Change and Removal For heavily exuding wounds, change the Kaltostat dressing when strike-through occurs on the secondary dressing, or as good clinical practice dictates. Removal is usually trouble-free on heavily exuding wounds. Kaltostat will gel at the wound/dressing interface and lift away. Removal from lightly exuding wounds may be assisted by saturating the dressing with sterile normal saline. Cleanse the wound site with an appropriate wound cleanser before applying a new dressing. As with any dressing, remove Kaltostat and cleanse the wound at appropriate intervals. Bleeding Wounds Apply Kaltostat Wound Dressing to the affected area to control minor bleeding. Remove once bleeding has stopped. Do not leave the dressing in place for more than 7 days.
